FAQ

Your questions, answered.

Everything we get asked about grounding, the products, setup, and what to expect — from people just discovering Earthbound to long-time customers.

01 · PRODUCT USABILITY

Setup, science, and what to expect.

How Earthbound works, what to expect when you start using it, and the most common questions about daily use.

What results can I expect, and how soon?

Most customers notice changes in the first 1–2 weeks of consistent overnight use:

  • Sleep: falling asleep faster, fewer wake-ups, deeper rest
  • Inflammation: reduced morning stiffness, less chronic pain
  • Stress: lower cortisol, calmer nervous system
  • Mood: better mental clarity, more emotional balance

Deeper benefits build over the first 30–90 nights. Individual responses vary — some people feel the change the first night, others take a few weeks. The 90-night guarantee is designed to give you time to know for sure.

How do the products actually work?

Earthbound products work on the same physiological principle as walking barefoot on grass. The Earth's surface holds a slight negative electrical charge — a reservoir of free electrons — that, when transferred to your body, helps neutralize inflammation and rebalance the nervous system.

Each product contains conductive carbon fiber connected via a cord to a grounded outlet (or grounding rod). The outlet's grounding wire connects directly to the Earth itself. While you sleep, free electrons flow from the Earth, through the cord, into the conductive material, and into your body — exactly as if you were standing barefoot outside.

What makes the products conductive — and why carbon fiber instead of silver?

The conductive material is what carries Earth's electrons into your body. Earthbound products use a high-density carbon fiber mesh, which is what makes our Near Field™ technology possible.

Most other grounding products use silver-coated thread woven into fabric. Silver is conductive, but it has a problem: it oxidizes. Every wash slowly degrades the silver's conductivity, and most silver-thread products lose their effectiveness within 12–24 months.

Carbon fiber is inert. It doesn't oxidize, doesn't degrade with washing, and conducts identically after a year as it does on day one. Buy it once, use it for life.

Do I need a grounding rod, or can I plug into the wall?

Most homes built after the 1960s have a grounded electrical system, which means you can plug the cord directly into a standard outlet. To verify your outlet is grounded, use the included Grounding Test Kit — it tells you in seconds whether the outlet is wired correctly.

If your home's outlets aren't grounded (older homes, off-grid setups, some apartment buildings), you can use the Earthbound Grounding Rod instead. The rod connects to the cord and goes directly into the soil outside your bedroom window. This works just as well — sometimes better, since you're connecting to the Earth directly with no intermediary.

Is it safe to leave my grounding rod outside in the rain?

Yes — totally safe, and actually helpful. Soil moisture increases conductivity and improves electron flow to your body. If you live in a dry climate, you can even water the ground around the rod once a week to maintain optimal conductivity.

Do Earthbound products run on electricity?

No. The cord connects only to the grounding hole of your outlet (or to a grounding rod outside) — never to the live or neutral wires that carry electrical current. The cord also has a built-in 100 kΩ safety resistor that prevents any electricity from flowing into your body even in extreme situations like a power surge.

What flows through the product isn't electricity. It's free electrons from the Earth — they flow naturally, on their own, the same way they would if you were standing barefoot on the ground outside.

Is it normal to feel warmer at night when grounded?

Yes — and it's a good sign. Grounded sleep improves circulation, which raises peripheral blood flow and slightly increases skin temperature. Many users report warmer hands, feet, and torso during the night, especially in the first few weeks.

This is a benefit, not a side effect. People who tend to sleep cold often feel the change first.

Should I unplug the cord during the day?

No need. The cord doesn't conduct electricity, only Earth's electrons, so there's no harm in leaving it plugged in 24/7. Continuous connection actually helps prevent oxidation in the cord itself, which extends product life.

Can I plug my Earthbound product into an extension cord?

Yes — as long as the extension cord is a 3-prong design (with a ground pin) plugged into a properly grounded outlet. Surge protectors with 3-prong outlets work well too. Don't use 2-prong cords or 3-prong adapters that bypass the ground pin — without ground, the product can't connect to the Earth.

Can I keep my regular fitted sheet over the Earthbound mattress pad?

Yes — and that's what makes Earthbound different from every other grounding product on the market.

This is our Near Field™ Earthing technology. Most grounding sheets and pads require direct skin contact to work. Earthbound's high-density carbon fiber is conductive enough that free electrons pass through a thin layer of fabric — your fitted sheet, your pajamas, even both — and reach your body fully. Shortly after you lie down, ambient body humidity completes the bridge, and you receive full grounding through your existing bedding.

You keep your favorite sheets. You change nothing about your bed setup. You just sleep.

Is grounding through a product the same as standing barefoot outside?

Electrically, yes. Earthbound products deliver the same electron transfer to your body as standing barefoot on grass or moist soil. You're connecting to the same Earth, through the same grounding system that buries every electrical infrastructure in the modern world.

What you don't get from a product: fresh air, sunshine, and the visual/sensory benefits of being outdoors. The grounding effect is identical, but going outside is still worthwhile for everything else.

How do I clean my Earthbound product?

Mattress pads, sheets, and pillow cases:

  • Machine wash cold or warm — never hot
  • Tumble dry on low, or air-dry to extend lifespan
  • Use mild detergent only — no bleach, no fabric softeners, no dryer sheets
  • Wash every 2–4 weeks with normal use, less often if you can

Mats and rigid pads: wipe gently with a damp cloth. The carbon fiber is inert and doesn't need frequent washing. Avoid abrasive cleaners and chemical sprays — they can damage the conductive surface.

What's the difference between mats, sheets, mattress pads, and pillow cases?

Mattress pads sit between your mattress and your fitted sheet. They use Near Field™ — your fitted sheet stays on top, no setup change. Best for overnight grounding without changing your bedding.

Grounding sheets replace your fitted sheet entirely. You sleep directly on the conductive surface, getting maximum overnight skin contact. Best if you want the fullest possible grounding effect during sleep.

Pillow cases ground your head, neck, and face — areas where chronic muscle tension and circulation issues often concentrate.

Mats are smaller and firmer, designed for daytime use under your hands at a desk or under your feet on the floor. Not for sleeping on.

The strongest setup combines overnight grounding (sheet or pad) with daytime grounding (mat). For most people, the mattress pad alone is plenty.

What size do I need for my bed?

Available sizes:

  • Twin / Twin XL: Twin (39"×75"), Twin XL (39"×80")
  • Full / Double: 54"×75"
  • Queen: 60"×80"
  • King / California King: King (76"×80"), Cal King (72"×84")

If you have a split-king or Sleep Number bed, two Twin XL pads work better than one large pad — they move independently. If your mattress is extra-deep (15"+), check the depth specification before ordering. When in doubt, size up rather than down.

Can I share an Earthbound pad with my partner?

Yes — both partners receive the grounding effect as long as both bodies are in contact with the conductive surface. Queen, King, and California King sizes are designed for two people. For Split-King setups (two independently moving mattresses), use two Twin XL pads instead of one.

Tell me about the 90-night guarantee.

You have 90 nights from the date of delivery to decide if Earthbound is right for you. All we ask is for you to try it for at least 30 days before contacting us for a return or refund. Grounding takes time for your body to determine its benefits, so this is why this is a requirement for your eligibility to make a claim. After 30 days, and up to 90, you are eligible for:

  • Full refund
  • Exchange for a different product
  • Store credit

Most products require you to return them in unused condition; we don't, because we believe the only way to know if grounded sleep works for you is to actually sleep on it.

Is there a warranty?

Yes — lifetime warranty against functional defects. If the product ever stops conducting properly or shows structural damage from a manufacturing issue, we'll replace it at no cost. Normal wear from years of washing isn't a defect, but the conductive system itself is covered for the lifetime of the product.

When will I receive my refund?

Once we receive and inspect your return at our warehouse, refunds are processed within 2 business days to your original payment method. Most banks reflect the refund on your statement within 3–7 business days after we issue it.

We can't refund to a different card or account from the one used to order — banking regulations require the same payment method.

05 · SAFETY

Is it safe? Yes — here's why.

Earthbound products carry only Earth's electrons, never electrical current. Every cord includes a 100 kΩ safety resistor.

Are grounding products safe for my pet?

Yes — totally safe, and often beneficial. Pets often gravitate toward grounding products on their own (cats especially), and over time may show the same circulation and stress benefits humans do. There's no risk to dogs, cats, or other domestic animals from contact with the products.

Can I use grounding products with an electric blanket or heated mattress pad?

Yes — they don't conflict. Earthbound products only carry electrons from Earth, not electrical current, so they coexist safely with heated bedding. Place the heated pad below and the grounding pad above — the grounding pad needs to be the topmost layer for the electrons to reach you.

Can I use grounding products during a lightning storm?

Homes are rarely struck by lightning. When it does happen, lightning takes the path of least resistance to ground — typically through plumbing, electrical wiring, or telephone/cable lines, all of which connect directly to Earth.

Your Earthbound product is connected to ground via a cord with a built-in 100 kΩ safety resistor. The resistor would melt before any current could reach you. That said, for full peace of mind during severe electrical storms, unplug the cord — the same precaution you'd take with any other electronic device.

Can I get electrocuted while using a grounding product?

No. The cord connects only to the grounding hole of your outlet (or a grounding rod outside the house) — never to the live or neutral wires that carry electricity. The product is electrically isolated from your home's power.

Additionally, every Earthbound cord has a built-in 100 kΩ safety resistor. Even in the extremely unlikely scenario of current somehow flowing into the grounding wire, the resistor prevents it from reaching you.

Can I use a grounding product with a water bed?

Yes — no conflict. The water bed's fluid layer doesn't affect the grounding pad's function, and the grounding pad doesn't affect the water bed.

Will it work with a split or electric (adjustable) bed?

Yes — every major brand of split or adjustable bedframe (Sleep Number, Tempur-Pedic split-king, electric base setups) works fine with Earthbound products. For split-king setups, use two Twin XL pads instead of one large pad — they move independently with each side of the bed.
