Grounding Pet Pad
- Ease stress and anxiety — in controlled animal research, grounding reduced anxiety-like behavior and lowered stress-hormone activity in the brain
- Support comfort & healthy joints — grounding research is associated with the body's natural anti-inflammatory processes
- Support immune health — grounding research links reduced inflammation with a healthier immune response
The research on grounding
Most grounding research has been conducted in humans, with an emerging set of controlled animal studies examining its physiological effects directly. Together, the literature points to effects on stress and anxiety, and beneficial inflammation- and immune-related outcomes. Grounding is the same principle — direct contact with the Earth's surface charge — whether the body resting on it is human or animal.
2023: In an animal study, a grounding mat reduced stress-induced anxiety-like behavior and lowered stress-hormone activity in the brain.
Park et al., Biomedicines, 2023 — controlled study in which stressed rats used an earthing mat for 7 to 21 days. Grounded animals showed reduced anxiety-like behavior on standard behavioral tests and a significant decrease in corticotropin-releasing factor (a key driver of the stress response) in the brain.
2015: A peer-reviewed review connected grounding with reduced inflammation, improved immune response, and faster recovery.
Oschman, Chevalier & Brown, Journal of Inflammation Research, 2015 — review of grounding's effects on inflammation, the immune response, wound healing, and recovery, drawing on both human observations and experimental models.
2023: Grounding was described as a potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant intervention.
Sinatra et al., Biomedical Journal, 2023 — peer-reviewed review discussing grounding's effects on inflammation, oxidative stress, cardiovascular function, and recovery.

You sleep grounded every night. The one curled up at your feet doesn't.
Out in nature, animals ground constantly — paws in the soil, bodies stretched across cool earth. But raised beds, synthetic floors, and indoor life quietly remove that contact for the twelve or more hours a day your dog or cat spends resting. Rest is exactly when their body does its recovering, and exactly when modern living leaves them cut off from the ground.
The pet pad puts your dog or cat in direct contact with the Earth's free electrons while they rest. Free electrons may help neutralize free radicals and support the body's natural anti-inflammatory processes, and in controlled animal research, grounding was associated with calmer, less anxious behavior — giving them a settled, familiar place to land at the end of the day.
Woven from the same soft 5% silver fiber as our grounding sheets and blanket, the pad connects to the Earth through any standard grounded outlet — the same simple setup as your own bedding. Place it in their crate, their bed, or their favorite corner, and let them settle in on their own.
"Grounding has been linked to benefits around sleep, inflammation, and overall wellbeing. What I like about Earthbound is how accessible they make grounding, offering people a simple way to reconnect with the Earth from home."

What to expect
How grounding settles in, week after week
A new favorite spot
Many pets take to the pad on their own, settling in quickly and resting more soundly in the place they've claimed as theirs.
Calmer, more settled
A more relaxed baseline often shows — easier wind-downs at night, less restlessness, and a pet who seems more at ease day to day.
Comfort & recovery
Owners often notice easier movement and quicker bounce-back after long walks or hard play, with continued grounding supporting everyday comfort.
Part of their routine
The pad becomes their default resting place — a steady, grounded spot that's simply part of how your companion rests and recovers.
Grounding pet pad FAQ
What does the grounding pet pad actually do?
Animals instinctively seek the ground — stretching across cool tile, digging into fresh soil, curling up on the grass. The Earthbound® Grounding Pet Pad brings that connection indoors. Your pet rests directly on a soft 5% silver-fiber surface that connects, through the included cord, to the grounding port of a standard outlet — placing them in gentle contact with the Earth's free electrons while they rest. It's the same principle, called grounding or earthing, behind our sheets and blanket, made into a cozy spot just for them.
How does it work?
Your pet lies directly on the soft silver-fiber surface, which connects through the included cord to the grounding port of a standard outlet. From there, the pad places their body in contact with the Earth's free electrons, drawn in through your home's grounding wire. There is no electricity flowing through the pad to your pet — only the Earth's natural electrons travel through the connection. No batteries, no charging, nothing to maintain.
Where should I put it, and will my pet actually use it?
Anywhere they already like to rest — a crate, a car seat, a favorite corner, or the foot of your bed. At 20" x 28" (50 x 70 cm) it suits most dogs and cats. Most pets are drawn to it on their own, since grounding is how their bodies are designed to rest out in nature. If yours is hesitant at first, place it in their usual spot with a favorite blanket on top until it becomes part of their routine.
Is it safe? Does electricity run through it?
No electricity from the grid ever flows through the pad to your pet. It connects only to the grounding wire in your outlet — the same wire that safely carries excess charge to the earth — and draws in the Earth's free electrons, nothing more. The included cord has a built-in current-limiting resistor as an added safety measure. We recommend testing your outlet with the included tester before first use, and disconnecting during thunderstorms as a simple precaution.
Can grounding really benefit my pet?
Most grounding research has been conducted in humans, but an emerging set of controlled animal studies has looked at it directly. In one 2023 study, stressed rats using a grounding mat showed reduced anxiety-like behavior and lower stress-hormone activity in the brain. Grounding research is also associated with the body's natural anti-inflammatory processes and a healthier immune response. Every pet responds differently, but many owners simply notice a calmer companion who settles in and rests well on the pad.
How do I clean it?
Keep the surface free of hair and debris between uses with a quick brush or lint roller. [Machine-washable on a gentle cycle — CONFIRM before publishing; if hand-wash or spot-clean only, state that here instead.] Always let it dry fully and reconnect the cord before your pet uses it again. Avoid harsh solvents, which can degrade the conductive fibers over time.
How is this different from a regular pet bed?
A regular bed gives your pet a soft place to lie down; the Grounding Pet Pad does that and keeps them gently connected to the Earth while they rest. It's low-profile, so you can lay it inside a bed or crate they already love, or use it on its own. Many owners who sleep on an Earthbound pad or sheet add the pet pad so their companion shares the same everyday grounding they do.
