What does the camping and RV grounding mattress pad do?
It keeps you grounded to the Earth on the nights you're farthest from home. It's the same conductive carbon-fiber grounding surface as our mattress pad, made portable for the road — but instead of a wall outlet, it connects to the Earth through an included 40-foot grounding rod you drive into the soil beside your tent or RV. That rod links you straight to the ground, so you stay grounded while you sleep anywhere off the grid, the way you would at home.
How does it ground without a wall outlet?
Through the included 40-foot grounding rod. You drive the rod into the earth outside your tent or RV, run the cable to the pad, and lay the pad over your sleeping surface. That's the most direct earth connection there is — the rod skips the household wiring entirely and links you to the soil itself, the same connection you'd get lying barefoot on the ground. There's no electricity involved — only the Earth's free electrons travel through the connection. The 40-foot cable gives you plenty of room to place the rod on open ground away from your setup.
What sizes does it come in, and where does it fit?
Two sizes: Single (28" x 70", for one sleeper) and Large (55" x 70", for a couple or wider bed). It lays over a sleeping pad, cot, air mattress, or RV mattress and works through a fitted sheet, exactly like sleeping on it at home. It rolls up compact and light, so it packs down for the trunk, the camper, or the backpack.
Is it safe? Does electricity run through it?
Yes, it's safe, and no electricity ever flows through the pad to you. Unlike your indoor pad, this one doesn't touch your home's wiring at all — the rod connects only to the earth, and draws in the Earth's free electrons, nothing more. There's nothing to plug in, no power source, and nothing to charge. Just drive the rod into the ground and you're connected.
Can I still use it at an RV park with hookups?
This pad is built to ground through its rod into the soil — that's how it's designed to connect, and it's the most direct earth connection you can get. Wherever you can drive the rod into open ground beside your site, you're grounded. If you're on pavement with no soil access, plan to position the rod in a nearby patch of earth using the generous 40-foot cable.
How is this different from my Earthbound mattress pad at home?
Same grounding, different connection point. Your home pad reaches the Earth through a grounded wall outlet and your building's wiring; this one reaches it more directly still — a rod straight into the soil. For campers and full-time RVers, that means the nights you're most disconnected from home are the nights you're most directly connected to the Earth. Many people keep the home pad on their bed and this one packed for every trip, so grounded sleep travels with them.
What is it made of, and how do I care for it?
It's built from the same durable conductive carbon fiber as our #1 mattress pad — inert, resistant to oxidation, and made to hold its conductivity for the long haul rather than fray like silver-thread products. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth as needed, avoid soaking or harsh solvents, and let it dry fully before rolling it up. Rinse any soil off the rod before packing it away.

Grounded sleep, anywhere the road takes you

The deepest sleep often comes on the nights you're closest to nature — a tent in the mountains, an RV parked by the coast. But the moment you're off a grounded wall outlet, most earthing products stop working. The Earthbound® Camping & RV Grounding Mattress Pad is built for exactly those nights: it connects you straight to the Earth through an included grounding rod, so you stay grounded wherever you sleep, on or off the grid.

40' of grounding cable — reach a patch of open soil from anywhere you park or pitch

The same conductive carbon-fiber surface as our #1 mattress pad, in a portable, roll-up profile made for the road. Instead of a wall outlet, it connects to the Earth through the included grounding rod — driven into the soil beside your tent or RV, it's the most direct earth connection there is, the same link you'd get lying barefoot on the ground. It lays over your sleeping pad, cot, air mattress, or RV bed and works right through your fitted sheet, exactly like sleeping on it at home. Rolls up compact and light, with nothing to charge and nothing to maintain.

Keep your Grounding Mattress Pad on the bed at home and this one packed for every trip — grounded sleep, wherever you go.

At home, a grounded outlet reaches the Earth through your building's wiring. Out here, the rod skips the middleman — so the nights you're most disconnected from home are the nights you're most directly connected to the Earth.

Whole-body grounding

One connection. Felt everywhere.

Modern life keeps you insulated from the Earth's free electrons. Reconnecting may support nearly every system that inflammation touches.

Sleep & circadian rhythm

Grounding may help regulate cortisol and calm the nervous system at night, so you fall asleep faster and wake more rested. Many people notice deeper, less interrupted sleep within the first week.

"Grounding has been linked to benefits around sleep, inflammation, and overall wellbeing. But most people can’t spend their day barefoot outdoors. What I like about Earthbound is how accessible they make grounding, offering people a simple way to reconnect with the Earth from home."

Portable Grounding Pad FAQ

Does grounding work while camping or off the grid?

Yes — and arguably more directly than indoors. The Earthbound® Portable Grounding Mattress Pad connects to the Earth through an included 40-foot grounding rod you drive into the soil beside your tent or RV. That rod links you straight to the ground, skipping the household wiring an indoor pad relies on. So the nights you're farthest from home are the nights you're most directly connected to the Earth.

How does it ground without a wall outlet?

Through the included 40-foot rod instead of an outlet. Drive the rod into the earth outside your tent, RV, or campsite, run the cable back to the pad, and lay the pad over your sleeping surface. Your body connects to the Earth's free electrons through that rod-to-soil path. There's no electricity involved and nothing to plug in or charge — only the Earth's natural charge travels through the connection.

Is the grounding rod included?

Yes — the 40-foot grounding rod and cable are included, no separate purchase needed. Out in nature there's no grounded outlet, so the rod is what makes grounded sleep possible off the grid. The generous 40-foot cable lets you place the rod in a good patch of open soil while your pad stays on your bed inside the tent or camper.

Can I use it in a tent?

Yes — a tent is the ideal setup. Lay the pad over your sleeping pad, cot, or air mattress, drive the rod into the soil just outside, and run the 40-foot cable in through the door or a gap. You sleep grounded on the ground you're already camping on, working right through your fitted sheet the same as at home.

Can I use a grounding pad in an RV or camper van?

Yes. RVs are heavily insulated from the earth — rubber tires, fiberglass, and leveling jacks cut you off from the ground even when parked. The rod solves that: drive it into the soil beside your site, run the 40-foot cable inside, and lay the pad on your RV mattress. It's grounded sleep for full-time RVers and weekend campers alike.

Does it work at a paved or gravel RV site?

The pad grounds through its rod driven into soil, so you'll want access to a patch of earth near your site. The 40-foot cable reaches a grass verge, planter, or open ground beside most paved or gravel pads. If your site is fully sealed with no soil within reach, plan ahead — grounding needs the rod in actual earth to work.

What sizes does the portable pad come in?

Two: Single (28" x 70", for one sleeper) and Large (55" x 70", for a couple or a wider bed). Both match the dimensions of our home mattress pad's Single and Full sizes, so the grounded feel travels with you. Each rolls up compact and light for the trunk, the camper, or a pack.

How packable is it for road trips or backpacking?

Very. The pad is ultra-thin and rolls down small and light, and the rod and 40-foot cable coil up alongside it. It's built to live in a trunk, a camper storage bay, or strapped to a pack — grounded sleep you can bring anywhere without giving up space you don't have.

Is it safe to use outdoors and in a tent?

Yes. No electricity ever flows through the pad to you — it connects only to the earth through the rod, drawing in the Earth's free electrons and nothing more. There's no power source, no battery, and nothing to short out in the rain. As a simple precaution, disconnect the rod during active thunderstorms, the same guidance we give for grounding indoors during lightning.

What is the portable pad made of?

The same durable conductive carbon fiber as our #1 mattress pad — inert, resistant to oxidation, and made to hold its conductivity trip after trip rather than fray like silver-thread products. It's built for the roll-and-pack life of camping gear while grounding as reliably on night fifty as on night one.

How is it different from silver-thread grounding sheets for travel?

Silver-thread products weave metal into cotton, and because the two wear differently, repeated washing and rough outdoor use cause fraying and lost conductivity over time. Carbon fiber doesn't oxidize or degrade, so it keeps full grounding performance through the abuse of the trail and campsite. For gear that has to last, it's a buy-it-once choice.

Can grounding help me sleep better while camping?

Many people already sleep deeply outdoors, and grounded sleep may deepen it further. Research on grounding suggests it may support a normalizing effect on the stress hormone cortisol, calmer nervous-system activity, and faster physical recovery — welcome after a day of hiking or driving. Everyone responds differently, but grounded rest is designed to help you wake restored, wherever you pitched camp.

Can I use it after a long day of hiking or driving?

That's exactly when many people reach for it. Research links grounding to improved circulation and the body's natural recovery processes, which may help ease the tired legs and general fatigue that follow a big day outdoors or long hours behind the wheel. Lay it on your bed, connect the rod, and let a grounded night do the quiet work.

How do I care for the pad and rod on the road?

Wipe the pad clean with a damp cloth as needed, avoid soaking or harsh solvents, and let it dry fully before rolling it up to prevent trapped moisture. Rinse any soil off the rod before packing it away. Coil the cable loosely rather than kinking it, and store the kit somewhere dry between trips so it's ready for the next one.

How is this different from my Earthbound mattress pad at home?

Same grounding, different connection. Your home pad reaches the Earth through a grounded wall outlet and your building's wiring; the portable pad reaches it more directly still — a rod straight into the soil. Many people keep the home pad on their bed year-round and this one packed for every trip, so grounded sleep goes wherever they do — grounded around the clock, on the road or off it.

FAQ

Everything we get asked about grounding, the pad, setup, and what to expect.

  • What is grounding (or earthing)?

Grounding means reconnecting your body to the Earth's natural electrons — like walking barefoot on grass, but while you sleep. The Earth's surface holds a slightly negative charge that, when transferred to your body, may help neutralize inflammation, support better sleep, and improve circulation.

  • How does the pad actually work?

You plug the included grounding cord into a grounded wall outlet. The outlet's grounding wire connects to the Earth itself. Free electrons travel from the Earth, through the cord, into the pad's conductive carbon fiber mesh. While you sleep, those electrons transfer through your fitted sheet to your body — the same effect as standing barefoot on grass.

  • Why carbon fiber instead of silver thread?

Silver oxidizes. Every wash degrades the conductivity of silver-thread sheets, and within a year or two, they stop working effectively. Carbon fiber is inert — it doesn't oxidize, doesn't fray, and conducts electrons identically after a year as it does on day one. Buy it once.

  • How quickly will I feel results?

Phase 1 (first week): Better sleep, reduced muscle tension, mood lift.
Phase 2 (first month): More refreshed mornings, joint pain relief, energy improvement.
Phase 3 (six months): Better circulation, faster physical recovery, healthier skin.
Phase 4 (one year+): Chronic symptoms fade, stronger immune response, deep sense of wellbeing.

  • Does it work through my fitted sheet?

Yes — that's our proprietary Near Field™ Earthing. Most grounding products require direct skin contact, but the conductivity of our high-density carbon fiber creates a restorative bridge that works through a thin layer of fabric like a fitted sheet or pajamas.

  • Is it safe to plug into a wall outlet?

Yes. The grounding cord has a built-in 100kΩ resistor for surge protection. No electricity flows through the pad — only free electrons from the Earth's natural charge. Safe to use every night.

  • What if my outlet isn't grounded?

Most modern outlets are grounded. If you're not sure, you can verify with the included Grounding Test Kit. If your outlet isn't grounded, you can use an outdoor grounding rod instead — sold separately on our site.

  • Will it block EMF?

The pad has been shown to block harmful electric fields from WiFi routers, microwaves, computers, and phone chargers. The carbon fiber acts as a Faraday-style shield while you sleep on it.

  • What about lightning storms?

The 100kΩ resistor built into the grounding cord protects against power surges. That said, during a severe electrical storm, we recommend unplugging just as you would any other electronic device — out of an abundance of caution.

  • Can I just walk barefoot instead?

You absolutely can — barefoot grounding is the original method. The challenge is consistency. Most people don't have safe, easy access to bare earth daily, especially in cold months or urban environments. The pad gives you 6-8 hours of grounded contact every night without needing to leave your bed.

  • How do I clean the pad?

Wipe gently with a damp cloth as needed. The carbon fiber doesn't require frequent washing because it's inert. Avoid harsh detergents or fabric softeners, which can damage the conductive surface.

  • What size should I order?

Single/Half-Bed (28"×70"): Twin, Twin XL, Split-King, or one side of a King.
    Full/Double (55"×70"): the most versatile mid-size.
    Queen (60"×80"): standard US Queen.
King/Cal King (72"×80"): maximum coverage for the largest formats.

  • Can my partner share the pad?

Yes. As long as you're both in contact with the pad, you both receive the grounding effect. For Split-King setups, two Single/Half-Bed pads work better than one large pad.

  • What if I don't feel a difference?

Use it consistently for at least 30 days. If you still don't notice any improvement, contact us within 90 nights of receiving your pad and we'll refund you in full — no questions asked.

  • Why not sell on Amazon?

Counterfeits. Direct-to-consumer is the only way we can guarantee you're getting an authentic Earthbound pad with proper conductivity, real warranty support, and our 90-night trial. Anything you find on Amazon claiming to be Earthbound is a knockoff.
