A grounding mat for bed is a conductive surface sized to your mattress that plugs into the ground port of an outlet. The best ones use a carbon surface that works through a fitted sheet, come in true mattress sizes, and are backed by a long trial. We compared seven options using the specifications and policies each brand lists.
Mat, pad or cover: they are the same category
Brands call the same product three things. Earthing.com sells a "Mattress Cover," Down To Ground a "Mattress Cover," Earthbound a "Mattress Pad." All three are carbon-conductive surfaces that lie on the mattress and connect to the outlet. A desk "grounding mat" is the same material in a 16-by-24-inch rectangle. When people search for a grounding mat for bed, they want the mattress-sized version, so that is what this guide ranks.
What to compare
- Size. True mattress sizes (Twin through California King) or half/full "universal" strips with straps.
- Through-the-sheet grounding. Some carbon pads list it; woven silver sheets generally do not.
- Thickness. Earthbound lists 1.85 mm; Down To Ground lists 2 mm. Under a fitted sheet, both disappear.
- Care. Carbon surfaces are wiped, not laundered.
- Trial and warranty. 45 days, 60 days, 90 nights, and whether a warranty is stated at all.

The pick for most beds
If you sleep two to a bed and want to keep your bedding, the Earthbound® Grounding Mattress Pad is the only product in this group that lists all four of: true mattress sizes through California King, grounding through your fitted sheet, a 90-night trial, and a lifetime warranty. Earthing.com's cover is the closest alternative on sizing and material, with a 45-day return window. Desk mats from Hooga and Earthbound are good daytime companions but are not bed-sized.

Materials: 75% Breathable Vegan Leatherette, 25% Conductive Carbon Fiber - Graphene Blend. Color: Black with breathable perforations. The surface is a soft vegan leatherette blended with conductive carbon fiber, BPA- and phthalate-free and dermatologically tested, so it's comfortable even for the most sensitive skin.
Care Information: Solvent-free wipe-down, occasional cold wash when needed. Will not degrade like silver.
Do I need bare skin contact? No. Near Field Earthing works through a layer of fabric like your fitted sheet or pajamas, so you can sleep normally and still stay grounded.
How do I set it up? Lay the pad under your fitted sheet, plug the grounding cord into a grounded wall outlet, and sleep. No apps, no charging, nothing to remember. A region-specific outlet adapter is included. FREE Outlet Tester included with every order.
Will it last? Yes. It is built from conductive carbon fiber, which will not oxidize or lose conductivity over time, unlike silver-thread products. It is a buy-it-once product, backed by a lifetime warranty.
Is it safe? The grounding cord includes a built-in 100k ohm resistor for safety. No electricity flows into the pad. Only the Earth's free electrons.
90-Day Money-Back Guarantee: Ground consistently for 30 nights. If you are not satisfied, you get a full refund for up to 90 days after delivery.
Shipping: Orders ship within 24–48 hours. Shipping is free on orders over $50, which includes every mattress pad. We ship only from tryearthbound.com — never through Amazon or other marketplaces.
Frequently asked questions
Do grounding sleeping mats really work?
Research suggests they may. A 2025 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of sixty participants using a grounding mat six hours a day for 31 days reported improved sleep quality, insomnia severity, daytime sleepiness and total sleep time versus a placebo mat (Park et al., Advances in Integrative Medicine). Individual responses vary.
Is it okay to sleep on a grounding mat all night?
Yes. Products in this guide are designed for overnight use. The cord connects only to the outlet's ground port; Earthbound's cord includes a built-in 100k ohm resistor and no electricity flows into the pad.
Who should not use a grounding mat?
Anyone with an implanted medical device such as a pacemaker, anyone on medication whose dosing could be affected by changes in sleep or circulation, and anyone whose outlet is not properly grounded. Ask your physician first, and test the outlet with the included tester before plugging in.
What is the best grounding mat for sleep?
For a whole bed: a true-size carbon pad that works through your fitted sheet and is backed by a long trial. In this comparison that is the Earthbound® Grounding Mattress Pad (90-night trial, lifetime warranty). Earthing.com's cover is the closest alternative with a 45-day window.
How do I know if my grounding mat is working?
Plug the included outlet tester into the wall first; two amber lights (on most US testers) mean the outlet is grounded. Then measure body voltage with a multimeter while lying on the pad; Earthbound publishes its own readings on its earthing test results page.
